4. The underwater forest

surroundings Tierra del Fuego (03) Gaméla’s mum holds her breath and winds like a fish among the enormous marine algae which are growing in the crystal clear water. This giant kelp resembles a forest underwater. Gaméla swims side by side with her mother. At the same time she holds a rope in her hand, a long one which is attached to their canoe. She looks for a piece of kelp to tie the rope but doesn’t find any suitable. She swims to the surface. Above the waterline she looks interrogatively at her mother who always finds one instantly. With a smile, mum shows her a proper marine plant a few meters away. That one seems strong enough. reuzenzeewier, kelpBoth take a deep breath and dive down a bit. Her mother points out the place once again and Gaméla fixes the rope and gets a compliment: ‘well done’. When surfacing, Gaméla’s father and brother are watching from the beach. “Why did it take you so long to tie-off the canoe?” Sisoi shouts at them. Gaméla realizes that she stays stuck somehow, she splashes, turns and takes a header for a moment. What is happening?
